The editorial principles of the Academus Edition are based on experiences with comparable editorial projects. An important principle is a dual-layer approach, consisting of the defining of basic editorial principles valid for the edition as a whole and the continual establishment of specialized editorial procedures for specific titles or groups of titles.

The Editorial Board of the Academus Edition provides for its management and organization. An editorial plan is created on the basis of proposals for the edition, which are evaluated and approved by the Editorial Board. An important component of a proposal for the edition is justification of the proposed project in terms of its benefits. Individual volumes are subject to a review procedure.
